The most beautiful villages of Gers

The Gers region is brimming with charming towns, medieval villages, fortified towns, and more, scattered across its verdant hills and countryside. We can't list them all, but here's an overview of some of the most remarkable sites. This list is in no particular order; we'll simply follow a discovery route through the different areas of the Gers.

Lavardens

In the heart of the Gers region, Lavardens is a tiny medieval village. A stroll through its narrow streets reveals old shops, now converted into houses, and a charming church.

Lavardens Castle is now an art center hosting exhibitions and concerts. You can also take a musical tour. The exhibitions change regularly; check the program on their website.

Near Lavardens, Le Moulin des Marionnettes will capture the attention of children: shows, workshops, treasure hunts and even a space to create your own puppets…

Sarrant

At the gateway to Gascony, the fortified town of Sarrant has a unique feature: its spiral shape. Its narrow streets wind around its church. This village bears witness to the Wars of Religion : its church, which was partially destroyed and rebuilt during that period; its half-timbered and wattle-and-daub houses, perfectly restored; its entrance gate, set in a square tower ; and its medieval-inspired garden.

Lectoure

In Lectoure, you'll find no fewer than forty medieval monuments. Suffice it to say, its past is rich. All these points of interest are listed by the town hall on its website.

La Romieu

The legend of Angeline inspired the locals, and the village became adorned with cats of all kinds. A "feline" treasure hunt is sure to delight children. La Romieu is also known for its collegiate church.

Condom

Nestled between vineyards and valleys, Condom is an episcopal city with a rich religious heritage. Cathedral, Gothic cloister, half-timbered houses… its narrow streets lead us to the heart of the Middle Ages. Join us on our discovery tour.

Larressingle

In the fortified village of Larressingle, you step back in time. Its heritage is truly exceptional: ramparts, towers, curtain walls, a magnificent entrance gate, a 13th ^- century castle, a church, medieval houses… No wonder it's called " The Little Carcassonne of Gers"…

It houses a medieval siege camp with war machines : catapults, stone-throwers, bricoles, trebuchets… all for you to try out, in costume of course! You'll learn all the techniques and tactics of warfare from that era. A true introduction to the Art of War awaits you.

Fourcès

Fourcès is an unusual village, unique in the Gers region … It is the only bastide built on a circular plan. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to admire its arboretum and its medieval square tower.

Montréal-du-Gers

Montréal-du-Gers has Gallo-Roman origins. This bastide was built on an ancient oppidum. In fact, some sites are considered to be part of Elusa, the ancient capital, notably the arena and the Villa Séviac. Then, in the Middle Ages, during the Hundred Years' War, it was repeatedly torn between France and England.

Nearby in Eauze, the archaeological interpretation center immerses you in the daily life of a Gallo-Roman. You'll discover a domus, a reception house, boasting cutting-edge technology for its time ! Lupiac

On what is known as " The natural balcony of the Pyrenees", Lupiac is the birthplace of the famous d'Artagnan.

A must-see, of course: the Musée d'Artagnan transports you between the real life of a musketeer of the Sun King and the romanticized version by Alexandre Dumas.

Near Lupiac, a beautiful leisure park will allow you to enjoy a moment of relaxation or games with your family.
