About

  • English
    • The Goalard church, located on the heights of Condom, is a Romanesque building whose history is deeply rooted in that of the region and one of its oldest families, the Galards. This church with a flat chevet has undergone many modifications over the centuries. Although discreet compared to the imposing Condom cathedral, it is nonetheless a precious witness to the medieval past of Gascony.

The history of this church is closely linked to the feudal castle that once stood nearby, the cradle of the Galard family. It was from this illustrious line that Hector de Galard, a historical figure who is said to have inspired the jack of diamonds in card games, descended. Today, although little remains of this castle, the church remains a peaceful place offering panoramic views of the surrounding area of Condom.
