Condom, a beautiful episcopal city in the Gers region, boasts a sublime cathedral that the Gers guide is delighted to discover! Backpack on our shoulders, camera in hand, we park the car not far from the covered market !

Saint Peter's Cathedral

Saint Peter's Cathedral

Head towards the episcopal city comprised of the 14th-century Saint-Pierre Cathedral and its 16th-century Gothic cloister. On the cathedral square, the Musketeers are not far away: Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and d'Artagnan cross swords and join their voices to proclaim their motto: ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE!

The square is truly charming, beautifully landscaped with flowers, and the Gothic cathedral commands attention from all visitors. Intrigued, we push open the grand doors of the religious building to uncover all its secrets! It closes at 6:30 pm.

Gothic vaults

Look up to admire the high ceilings with their beautiful Gothic vaults. The vaults intersect and meet at intricately decorated keystones. They are incredibly well-preserved and quite legible, if you know a little about catechism! There are faces, animals, the symbols of the Evangelists… It's magnificent!

The choir and its stained-glass windows

However, the most impressive feature remains the choir with its gallery of stone figures… They exude a very particular atmosphere, a certain spirituality. Take the time to admire them; perhaps one of them will answer you! The whole space is illuminated by stained-glass windows … Fantastic! The exploration continues through the ambulatory and the axial chapels … it truly is a beautiful and impressive cathedral!

The cloister

Outside, walk around the cathedral to reach the cloister. Just like the cathedral, the cloister is imposing, with wide aisles and numerous bays. It houses the cultural center and hosts occasional festivities. There's a beautiful view from the center of the cloister; it's truly a unique place with its own special atmosphere! The architecture here is the same as in the cathedral, with its magnificent keystones!

The pretty town of Condom

The streets and alleyways are charming. There are a few half-timbered houses, but overall the style is quite modern. It's a real small town with all the shops: butcher, bakery, pharmacy, restaurants, clothing boutiques. There's even an English grocery store selling excellent products, near the covered market. No one is left out ;)
