The Saint-Pierre church in Barbotan-les-Thermes, located in the commune of Cazaubon in the Gers, is a building with a rich past. Built at the beginning of the Middle Ages, it is remarkable for its location on land that was once marshy. To overcome this problem, it was built on stilts and bundles of wood, an architectural feat for the time. It is even said that it was built on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple, and it is one of the rare medieval churches in the region to still be active, with worship celebrated without interruption for centuries.
