Les Hauts de Montrouge: The soul of Gascony at the heart of a visionary cooperative

In the rolling landscape of Gers, where the sky seems to embrace the vineyards as far as the eye can see, stands an institution that embodies the very essence of rural solidarity: Les Hauts de Montrouge. Much more than a simple cooperative winery, this structure located in Nogaro is the standard-bearer of a Gascon way of life, blending authenticity, intergenerational transmission and creative audacity.

A collective strength: 52 families, one destiny

Heights of Montrouge

The story of Hauts de Montrouge is a collective one. Fifty-two winegrowing families, working hand in hand with 23 passionate employees, are the heart and soul of this estate. Here, the cooperative model is not just an empty phrase. The winegrowers are the true architects of their own destiny: they are involved in every strategic decision, ensuring humane and transparent governance.

This collective strength translates into a strong family identity. Here, one encounters younger generations proudly carrying on the legacy of their parents and grandparents, ensuring the continuity of not only expertise, but also, and above all, a way of being. At Hauts de Montrouge, knowledge transfer is a cornerstone, extending even beyond the vineyard : lengthy "handover" periods are organized between employees so that the experience of veterans can fuel the energy of newcomers.

HDM: Yesterday, Tomorrow, Now

The logo, proudly displaying a stylized hat—a symbol of the strong character of the men and women of Gers—contains a richly meaningful acronym. HDM stands for " Hauts de Montrouge," of course, but it also represents a temporal philosophy:

  • Yesterday: respect for traditions and roots.
  • Tomorrow: innovation and sustainability for future generations.
  • Now: the immediate pleasure of sharing and tasting.

This transparency and ethics have also enabled the cooperative to obtain a CSR commitment label – Confirmed Level, particularly highlighting a very solid and sustainable participatory governance.

A 100% Gascony aromatic palette

The diversity of the Gers terroirs allows Hauts de Montrouge to offer a complete range, capable of accompanying all moments of life, from aperitif to digestif.

Wines with character

The winery distinguishes itself with its varietal wines, educational tools for understanding local character. Here you'll find the aromatics of Colombard, the fruitiness of Gros Manseng, or the freshness of Sauvignon. Each cuvée tells the story of a plot of Gascon soil.

Floc de Gascogne and liqueurs

The aperitif is sacred in the Gers region. Floc de Gascogne, a subtle blend of fresh grape juice and young Armagnac, is celebrated here in both its white and rosé versions. Liqueurs complete this offering for moments of pure indulgence.

Armagnac: The Excellence of the Terroir

The jewel of the house, Armagnac is treated here with particular devotion. A rare distinction: the house offers a 100% Colombard Armagnac, boasting exceptional finesse and a unique aromatic profile. Every drop reflects the masterful distillation process carried out within their own distillery.

The wine tourism experience, an immersion in the land of d'Artagnan

For the past year, Les Hauts de Montrouge has opened its doors wide to the public with a fun and immersive tourism experience. The goal? To demystify the world of vineyards and wineries while conveying an enduring passion.

Tours and workshops: become an active participant in local life

The cooperative controls the entire process, from vineyard to bottling. The standard tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at production, followed by a free tasting. For those who wish to delve deeper, paid experiences are available.

For total immersion, themed workshops (up to 50 people) available by reservation offer a way to challenge the established norms:

  • Creating Armagnac blends: learn how to compose your own nectar.
  • Gascon Cocktails: discover how Armagnac can be modern, fresh and festive.
  • Guided tasting: a sensory journey to decipher the aromas of amber gold.

The unmissable events of the year

Life in Hauts de Montrouge is punctuated by two major events that resonate throughout the Gers region:

  • Vineart in Gascony (early August): a magical encounter between art and wine. The wine cellars are transformed into an exhibition gallery. Between shows, music, and a Gascon dinner, it's a celebration of local culture in all its forms.
  • The Flame of Armagnac (1st weekend of December): at the time of distillation, the cooperative ignites with excitement. Open house, convivial meals at the foot of the still, and brass bands create a unique atmosphere to celebrate the birth of the new vintage.

Did you know? The cooperative remains open to visitors throughout the year.

Whether you are a knowledgeable wine enthusiast or a curious traveler passing through the Gers, stopping at Les Hauts de Montrouge is to offer yourself a parenthesis of authentic conviviality where the human remains, against all odds, the first of the grape varieties.
