A love story from Switzerland

A true love at first sight for the land of Armagnac decided Paul and Marguerite Gessler to leave Switzerland to settle in the magnificent region of Gers in 1925. Their little corner of paradise? The Domaine de Joÿ, then managed in mixed farming, a superb property surrounded by vineyards and nature. Their undiminished passion has been passed down through the generations as André and Véronique Gessler and then Olivier, their son, each took over the reins of this unique estate in the Gers. In 1990, a breath of modernity encouraged Olivier to focus his efforts on vine cultivation to produce Côtes de Gascogne wines, in particular, as well as a very selective range of Bas-Armagnac renowned for their supple and fruity character. Today, it is in a true team spirit that Olivier, but also Vanessa and Kevin, preserve the family know-how at Domaine de Joÿ, a unique heritage of tradition, love and passion.

Sublime Côtes de Gascogne wines with typical local flavors

The landscape offered by the Domaine de Joÿ is worthy of a postcard with its 190 hectares of vines in multiple colors depending on the seasons. Composed of clay-siliceous soils and tawny sands (silty-siliceous), the plots, most of which are south-facing, benefit from an oceanic climate and a Pyrenean influence, perfect for the growth and maturation of the grapes. Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Gros Maseng for the whites; Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat for the reds and rosés, the traditional Gascony grape varieties follow a controlled path to offer you unique wines with fruity aromas:

  • Harvests ripe between September and mid-October
  • Skin maceration to promote the extraction of aromas
  • Gentle pneumatic pressing that is less aggressive on the tannins
  • Low temperature fermentation preserving the aromatic freshness of the wine
  • Aging on fine lees which brings a delicious complexity to the wine
  • A blend of grape varieties to optimize organoleptic characteristics
  • Aging in vats which refines the character of the wine
  • Filtration of the blends before bottling

As an aperitif, to accompany a meal or for pleasure, the wines of Domaine de Joÿ are true wine gems to be enjoyed throughout the year, and for all occasions.

Did you know ? The Domaine de Joÿ has won numerous awards at the Concours Général Agricole:

In 2019 with a gold medal for its “Envie” vintage and a silver medal for its “Eros” vintage

An elegant and refined Armagnac that seduces the palate

While wine production represents the majority of the estate's work, around twenty hectares are reserved for the production of Bas-Armagnac and Armagnac with the Ugni Blanc, Bacco and Folle Blanche grape varieties. Benefiting from the same climatic conditions as for wine, the grapes intended for distillation are bursting with flavor, offering aromatic, fruity, supple and elegant eaux-de-vie obtained thanks to mastered know-how. A true Gascon elixir, Armagnac is produced through distillation in a traditional still carried out on the Domaine de Joÿ, a guarantee of quality for this round and silky nectar that coats the palate. Aged in local oak barrels, the amber liquids concentrate all their aromas and flavors at the heart of an exceptional range of Bas-Armagnac VSOP, XO and Hors d'Âge, but also Armagnacs by Joÿ VSOP.

Did you know ? Domaine de Joÿ was awarded a gold medal for its 15-year-old Hors d'Âge Armagnac at the 2020 Concours Général Agricole for its quality work.

Domaine de Joÿ, a preserved terroir in the heart of Gascony

The love of wine and the vine is reflected in the work carried out in the cellars, but also in that of the soils and the environment. In love with their region and passionate about their profession, Olivier, Vanessa and Kevin have been managing their vines using sustainable agriculture since 2005. Respecting biodiversity, limiting inputs, optimizing water and fertilization management, all these values dear to the estate allowed them to obtain the “ High Environmental Value ” (HVE) level 3 certification in 2019. In this same environmental approach that represents them, they converted 10 hectares of their farm to organic farming in 2020 and developed an organic range “Naturally Joÿ”, balanced and harmonious white, red and rosé wines.
