Day 1: Discover the northwest of the Gers

Let's go to the hilliest part where the vines stretch as far as the eye can see. Capitals and small villages, the adventure begins gently in the Gers.

Visit Auch

Capital of Gascony, this medieval city is a must for 3 days in the Gers, a stopover on the roads to Compostela. Crossed by the river, it offers an ideal living environment between greenery and charming historic center. Half-timberings and arcades line the streets leading to historic monuments such as the statue of d'Artagnan, Sainte-Marie Cathedral and the Treasury Museum. To get there, climb the steps of the monumental staircase , the city's emblem. Parks and walks along the shore, Auch is a nice starting point for your stay. Plan a half-day visit and don't miss the small Garros market every Tuesday, or the one under the market every 2nd Saturday of the month.

Explore the town of Lavardens

Ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, Lavardens is a perfect stopover to get away from it all. We notice from afar the feudal castle of this medieval town which overlooks the houses from the top of its rocky spur. Walk through the pretty cobbled and flowery streets and gain some height to admire the vast countryside and hill landscapes that open up before you. If you like hiking, allow some time to appreciate nature and its paths, before stocking up on groceries at the farmers' market on Friday afternoon.

Make a stop at Larressingle

We head north a few kilometers from Condom to enter one of the most beautiful villages in France, Larressingle. A 13th century fortified town , its visit is like a journey back in time with the castle-keep and the church which bring together the pretty houses with golden stones. Larressingle is picturesque and charming with medieval architecture which has earned it the nickname “ the little Carcassonne of the Gers ”. You can't miss it, it's in the middle of the vineyards.

Obviously, each destination is an opportunity to taste a specialty of the region, such as a delicious duck breast or duck confit.

Day 2: Appreciate the vine landscapes in the north of the Gers

We continue our Gers escape with other ever more charming villages to visit in a pretty wine-growing region.

Visit Montréal-du-Gers

Montréal-du-Gers is a magnificent little village ranked among the most beautiful in France. This country house (it was the first in Gascony) respects the codes with a grid plan. The houses face the central square , as do the alleys which join it in its center. Lined with arcades and half-timbered facades, the village retains the charm of the period. The fortified walls and the Gothic church dominate the Auzoue valley for a lovely view of the Gers countryside. Take your basket for the Friday market under the arcades.

Discover Fourcès

You will be under the spell of Fourcès, a charming village which is one of the most beautiful in France and exudes an atmosphere of calm and serenity. Everything takes place in the center of the city, where the castle stood before being destroyed, replaced by a beautiful round square surrounded by plane trees. The shade of the trees is much appreciated during pétanque games, concerts or markets. Admire the 13th-century Clock Tower and medieval houses at your own pace, or take the guided tour. Don't hesitate to come back in April to enjoy the incredible flower market organized every year.

Stop off in Condom

A visit to Condom is essential when visiting the Gers. The capital of Ténarèze is rich in historical heritage which is revealed at the bend of each alley with numerous private mansions from the 13th and 14th centuries. Admire and visit the magnificent Saint-Pierre Cathedral, elegant in its Gothic style, as well as its cloister which leads to a small chapel. Above all, don't miss the Armagnac Museum, an emblematic drink of the region that you absolutely must taste. You will surely find some at the Sunday morning farmers' market.

The arcades are magnificent, especially if the sun is out and reflects on the golden stones. Proceed to the Coursiana garden, a colorful green setting with thousands of plants, including 350 varieties of roses. Fill up on wonderful scents before hitting the road again.

Day 3: Discover the east of the Gers

We modify the axis of the map to visit the pretty villages of eastern Gers, the last stop of our stay in Gers.

Visit Lectoure

This pretty town is very dynamic with many activities organized all year round. The one not to be missed is the melon festival which takes place in August, the opportunity to taste this colorful and tasty fruit as an aperitif or as a starter. But Lectoure is also an ancient and fortified town . Formerly called Lectora, it preserves many historic buildings and old industrial factories such as the Royal Tannery. Do you know the Lectoure blue? This very particular pastel color which beautifully enhances objects and clothing. Visit the store and leave with a souvenir.

Discover Saint-Clar

This is a very special country house since it is made up of 2 central squares with arcades, and 2 historic centers. Dominating the Arratz valley, Saint-Clar takes you back to the Middle Ages with its narrow streets and its old Romanesque church. Go to the Public School Museum for a nostalgic moment in the smells of childhood. Textbooks, desks, satchels and notebooks, everything was preserved to return to school between 1789 and 1960. It's snack time ? Stroll through the market every Thursday morning.

Visit Sarrant

Also classified as the most beautiful village in France, Sarrant surprises with its atypical entrance, a vestige of medieval times. Indeed, in a large square tower stands out a molded door dating from the 14th century which lets you pass through, previously connected to the drawbridge. Did you enter? Wander the streets which lead to the Saint-Vincent church , the central building of the city around which the 16th century stone and half-timbered houses gather. The marked paths and the lake complete this pretty picture of a calming village.
