Condom, a beautiful episcopal city in the Gers with a sublime cathedral that the Gers guide is delighted to discover! Backpacks on our shoulders, camera in hand, we park the car not far from the covered market !

Saint Peter's Cathedral

Saint Peter's Cathedral

Head to the episcopal city, made up of the 14th-century Saint-Pierre Cathedral and its 16th-century Gothic cloister. On the square, the Musketeers are not far away: Athos, Portos, Aramis, and d'Artagnan are crossing swords and joining forces to push their motto: ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE!

The square is truly charming, full of flowers, and the Gothic-style cathedral stands out in front of all visitors. Curious, we push open the large doors of the religious building to decipher all its secrets! It closes at 6:30 p.m.

The Gothic vaults

Raise your head to see the high ceilings with very beautiful Gothic vaults. The vaults intersect and are joined by very well-decorated keystones. They are incredibly well preserved and quite readable, if you know your catechism lessons a little! There are faces, animals, the symbols of the evangelists... It's sumptuous!

The choir and its stained glass windows

However, the most impressive part remains the choir with its gallery of stone figures... They give off a very special atmosphere, a certain spirituality. Take the time to admire them, maybe one of them will be able to answer you! Everything is illuminated by the stained glass windows... Great! The discovery continues with the ambulatory and the axial chapels... it is truly a beautiful and impressive cathedral!

The cloister

Outside, walk around the cathedral to reach the cloister. Just like the cathedral, the cloister is imposing, with large aisles and numerous bays. It contains the cultural center and hosts some festivities from time to time. There is a beautiful view from the center of the cloister; it is truly a unique place with an atmosphere of its own! We find the same architecture as in the cathedral with very beautiful keystones!

The pretty town of Concom

The streets and alleys are charming. There are a few half-timbered houses but the whole is rather contemporary. It's a real small town with all the shops: butcher, bakery, pharmacy, restaurants, clothing stores. There's even an English grocery store that sells very good products, near the covered market. No one is forgotten ;)
