Bhakta Spirits, preserving a renowned Armagnac in Condom

The story of Maison Dupeyron begins in 1905 with Joseph Dupeyron, who founded this brand renowned for its eaux-de-vie, which had already won medals at the 1900 Universal Exhibition.

The powerful, complex, and fruity character of this golden gem has captivated palates far beyond the borders of Gascony, notably that of Raj Peter Bhakta, an American entrepreneur who, in December 2019, purchased the iconic Maison Dupeyron, a specialist in old Gascon brandies. His goal? To restore Armagnac to its former glory and introduce the world to the soul, history, and aromas of this unique brandy produced in the Gers region.

Upon acquiring the company, one of its innovations to appeal to the American public, unfamiliar with our noble Armagnac, was the creation of a limited-edition Bhakta 50, produced in 38 casks. This blend comprises eight vintage Armagnacs, the oldest of which is an eau-de-vie from 1868, finished in Islay whisky casks. However, Mr. Bhakta's priority remains the focus on the extremely rare and old vintage Armagnacs that the house is proud to offer.

Attached to the values of the terroir, he continues to welcome visitors to the century-old cellars located in the heart of the Hôtel Cugnac in Condom, who can also taste the Armagnac still marketed under the Dupeyron brand.
