    • Château Arton Haut-Armagnac in the Gers

Owner Harvester since 1991, in biodynamic and permaculture conversion

At Arton, we are dedicated to crafting the purest and most exceptional expressions of Armagnac. Everything from vine to wine, from wine to Armagnac, must be produced on- site and in a way that best embodies the terroir and expertise of Arton. Our dry white, sweet, red and rosé IGP wines are designed to explore the oenological potential of the Haut-Armagnac region and reposition the Côtes de Gascogne on the wine scene. An expert in vintages and unique pieces, Château Arton is also the birthplace of the first white Armagnac, created in 1986.

Becoming a winemaker at 40? A dream. A madness. It will become a reality. The Gascon ardor has spoken! Patrick and Victoire de Montal dared to believe and thus revive the wine-growing destiny of the Lectoure plateau. The first vines were planted in 1991, thus resurrecting the wine-growing vocation of Haut-Armagnac. Because for more than 100 years, no one had dared to replant vines in the region. The phylloxera aphid had, a century earlier, destroyed the flourishing vineyards of Haut-Armagnac and discouraged the most daring winegrowers, leaving the distorted memory of a land unsuitable for viticulture. Little by little, the estate took on the appearance we know today.

After more than forty years spent developing a demanding and innovative wine culture, Patrick and Victoire de Montal have succeeded in giving their Gers estate its letters of nobility. From the creation of Fine Blanche® in 1986 to the development of Armagnac vintages released in single barrels, they have constantly defied prejudices, succeeding in raising their Haut-Armagnac to the rank of best French eau-de-vie in 2017 !

It is this exceptional story that their children Jean and Lili de Montal decided to continue by settling at the estate. Leaving Paris in turn, they brought a new ambition, a bold environmental initiative and a large-scale institutional and cultural project.

A must-see event at the end of the year: Le Marché Complice at Château Arton!

On the weekend of December 6-7, 2025, the wine cellars will be transformed into a gourmet food court bringing together producers, chefs, and artisans from the Gers region. More than just an event, the Marché Complice is a festive culinary gathering, an opportunity to enjoy a wonderful moment of conviviality between tastings and Christmas shopping.
