Musée Archéologique Museums in Lectoure

The Archaeological Museum of Lectoure is a place of remarkable historical richness. Housed in the vaulted cellars of the town hall, which was the former bishop's palace, it is considered one of the oldest museums in France. Its history began in the 16th century, following the discovery of collections of Gallo-Roman remains, mainly bullfighting altars. These discoveries made the town a leading archaeological site and the museum is today a reference for regional archaeology.
