About

  • English
    • The Carmelite Chapel of Lectoure is a little-known jewel of the religious heritage of the Gers, closely linked to the history of the town. Founded in 1623 thanks to Marshal Roquelaure, the Carmelite convent was the fifth in France, a leading establishment for the time. The construction of the current chapel took place over several decades in the 17th century, a major project that was visited by royal figures such as Anne of Austria and Louis XIV. Its architecture, both sober and elegant, hides a remarkable interior where one can admire decorations and paintings, including a ceiling decorated with angels and vine branches, added in the 17th and 19th centuries.
