The Gers Museum of Resistance and Deportation, located in Auch, is a key memorial that traces the history of the department during the Second World War. Founded in 1954 by former resistance fighters, the museum's mission is to preserve the memory and commitment of those who fought against occupation and barbarity. It recently moved to new, modern premises on Place des Carmélites in Auch, which will be inaugurated in May 2023.
This cultural space offers an immersion in local and national history, highlighting the actions of the Resistance in the Gers and the fate of the deportees. It houses a collection of documents, objects and testimonies that allow visitors to better understand the realities of this dark period. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions and offers guided tours for the public, highlighting the importance of passing on these memories to younger generations.
