    • Located on the outskirts of the fortified city of Larressingle, go back in time and rediscover the Middle Ages and its war machines at the Medieval Siege Camp.

Passionate about his job and this period of history, Gauthier will welcome you in period costume to present the different machines that make up the evolving park.

New features: the weapons room with the sixteen knights in armour and chain mail, a presentation of model of siege engine, the stone cutting workshop, the forge and anvil workshop.

During the visit, children and adults will be able to:

      • Manipulate catapult, stone throw machine, traction trebuchet, counterweight trebuchet, ballista !
      • Dress up as a knight or princess. Try on chainmail, tunic and helmet.
      • Learn how to attack or defend a castle. Operate the battering ram. Climb in the siege tower and the wooden tower.
      • Practice your archery skills and crossbow shooting.
      • Rotate the crane or squirrel cage to help to build the castle.
      • Make the royal penny to pay the tithe. If it is counterfeit, you are put in the pillory. Medieval weapons, crossbows, cannons and guns, harnesses and halberds will be presented to you.

Just great, for both kids and parents. Very comprehensive, lots of exhibits and workshops/demonstrations/activities with plenty of explanations from the guide who cracks jokes as a bonus. The guided tour is a loop, no waiting... The kids were delighted, and so were the parents. Thank you to the Medieval Camp!

Simple set up but the key attraction is that the children and adults can actually get involved with the machines, rather than the usual boards of information and “do not touch”. They had great fun trying the different weapons, feeling the weight of chainmail and swords, shooting wooden crossbows and arrows and helping to launch the larger siege weapons. Probably appeals up to 12/14 years old. Cafe on site and several areas of shade.

I recommend this activity for both adults and children. You can participate in operating the machines, guided by Gauthier's passionate explanations, who teaches you how not to trip over yourself and keep your wits about you. Thank you for this day.
