THE GERS, A MODERN AND DIGITAL LAND

THE GERS, A MODERN AN ...

The Gers is a rural region, though it is also a modern place! The Gascons understand the importance of their rich heritage in terms of tourism. There are modern attractions too

DIGITAL ACCESS

Employment is essential to attract young people to the area. Not an easy task in a rural region like the Gers. The solution to this problem was digitalTeleworking allows independent workers or employees in the Gers to communicate, exchange, share and create work... remotely, with their customers and companies. To telework, you need a good internet connection, therefore, this is a priority in the region! Covering 100% of the villages and towns with fibreoptics or with more than 8 Mbit/s broadband by 2020 is their aim. A good start has already been made! This project was the biggest deployment of broadband in France in 2017. It is a stepping stone for jobs: existing companies will be able to increase the quantity and quality of their services (online sales, exchange of heavy files), companies settling in the Gers can benefit immediately from conditions as advantageous as in a heavily populated area. Teleworkers can work in a quiet rural setting with all the necessary technology to stay in contact with the rest of the world.

BROADBAND AND TOURISM

Tourism also benefits from this expansion, as augmented reality (AR) and smartphone applications have been created to complete holiday makers knowledge of towns/villages/museums. All this requires a good internet connection. Tourists will be able to use their digital devices, without the internet failing, as often happen in rural areas. This is a real advantage for the Gers, which already has many advantages for attracting holidaymakers looking for an enjoyable holiday.

A slow pace of life on holiday - yes; a slow broadband connection, absolutely not!
